Navigating the Next Normal

  • In this next normal, organisations across the world are planning to implement ways of working that balance business continuity with employee safety.

Moving into the month of June, countries around the world are coming out of lockdowns and settling into a new reality. Here in Singapore, where I am based, we have also just exited the Circuit Breaker and are navigating this next normal.

Organisations across the world are now planning to implement ways of working that balance business continuity with employee safety. Understanding that our clients and other businesses need support to return to work safely, we have recently launched an initiative – Rise with Sodexo – to enable a return to safe workplaces, support wellbeing and optimise space usage. This is based on our experience of supporting clients globally since the early days of COVID-19 to create safe workspaces. We also looked at the various changes that are going to impact the workplace in our white paper, ‘A Quantum Shift in Work’.

Using a practical, data-driven process, our team establishes a clear approach to help organisations reopen safely and address the needs of our new reality. We map out each step of our consumers’ daily routine and create solutions to address each need. Using this people-centred philosophy, we build bespoke plans to adapt the principles and services to unique needs.

Responding in the now, we are supporting offices to adjust the workplaces they have today with physical distancing, like moving or deactivating desks and chairs, adding barriers, and enhancing safety and cleaning measures. As companies progressively welcome employees back, developing friendly and positive messages and signages that reflect the company’s brand will also create a better employee experience. In the immediate future, organisations can also start planning and reconfiguring the workplace so that it will feel more natural and allow more people to return. This could include new layouts in the space to help physical distancing feel more comfortable.

From the immediate needs of workplace disinfection and contactless solutions to a longer-term workspace redesign, we are committed to helping organisations navigate and are confident that we can all thrive together in this new world. By embracing new ways to live, work, play and care, we can reimagine what is possible.
