Sodexo to Provide Yale-NUS College Food Services Built on Sustainability

July 03, 2018

Sodexo, world leader in Quality of Life services, has signed a new food services partnership with Yale-NUS College after a competitive pitch. Services will begin at the end of July 2018.

Sodexo to Provide Yale-NUS College Food Services Built on Sustainability

Sodexo’s famed food services will be implemented at Yale-NUS College, Asia’s leading liberal arts college founded by the prestigious Yale University and National University of Singapore. The College has a full residential programme that integrates living and learning, and is home to over 900 students, faculty, and residential staff from over 60 countries.

Central to Sodexo’s offerings are sustainability measures driven by innovative technology and ethical practices. These solutions are tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of a new generation of students who cares about healthy eating, how food is sourced, and environmental sustainability*.

They include:

  1. Responsible sourcing of ingredients such as sustainable seafood and certified sustainable palm oil. There will also be minimal use of single-use biodegradable disposables, plastics and paper among other measures.

  2. WasteWatch, a food waste prevention programme developed for Sodexo sites worldwide. Food waste is tracked, measured and reported via a central monitoring system daily. Adjustments are then made to quantities and types of dishes served to reduce amount of waste generated. Students and staff can also actively engaged in the effort through placement of educational posters and transparent bins to develop mindfulness.

In the final stages of pitching, Sodexo received positive feedback from a food tasting session. The participating students with differing dietary preferences and requirements had a preview of Sodexo’s value propositions such as sustainability, nutrition, and themed food promotions. Sodexo also demonstrated commitment to align with Yale-NUS’ smart campus facilities management roadmap by proposing to innovate collaboratively and deploy technology-based solutions in managing the dining operations.

The new partnership with Yale-NUS reinforces the leadership position of Sodexo in the education sector. In Singapore, educational institutes in Sodexo’s current portfolio range from pre-schools to tertiary institutions.

Laurent Hochet, Segment director, Schools & Universities, South East Asia, said:

“A vital part of our win is that we are on the pulse of global trends, innovation and sustainability solutions. The know-how we possess coupled with high student engagement can help improve the Quality of Life of the people we serve. We are heartened by the confidence placed in us by Yale-NUS College, and look forward to a positive collaboration.”
